Item Description

The product comes with expanded 8 page booklet and the track titles are expanded also with some great bonus tracks.

The band was formed in 1983 when successful Dutch record producers
Eric Van Tijn and Jochem Fluitsma brought together three former
backing-singers Jetty Wheels, Mildred Douglas and Caroline De Windt.
Mai Tai (from the well known tropical cocktail) went on to become
the most successful soul/disco act in Dutch history so far.

Mai Tai’s debut-single was “Keep On DancingE(1983) was well received
locally, but it wasn’t until the release of the second single “What Goes OnE
that the band reached the Dutch Top 40. Tracks that then followed
Body & Soul and Am I Losing You Forever also reached the Dutch Top
40.

Early 1985 brought Mai Tai’s debut album which included the international
hit “HistoryEsold more than 250,000 copies, gaining worldwide
acknowledgement. “HistoryEwas the big success story from the album
becoming a Top 10 hit in the U.K., Top 20 in Germany, Top 10 in New
Zealand and Australia and Number 1 in the U.S. dance charts. The album
got an Edison (Dutch Grammy) and made it to No. 1 in the U.K. Mai Tai
went on to receive the Midem Award at the Cannes Music Festival and the
Silver Harp in Holland.

“Female IntuitionEbecame a Top 40 hit all across Europe in 1986, and made
the Top 10 in Denmark. A re-release of “Body & SoulEmade the band their
second Top 10 hit in the U.K., and “Female IntuitionEhit the U.K. Top 20.

After this international breakthrough Mai Tai had another Dutch Top 10 hit
with “Turn Your Love AroundE(1 Touch 2 Much).

Then the third album was released “Cool Is The RuleE(1987) but could not
reach the height’s of the two previous albums and after a “Best OfEalbum
in 1991 with only one new track “Dance In The LightE Again this was not
as successful as was hoped and the band decided to split.

Mai Tai has since been reformed (2001) performing a lot in Holland, sometimes
with the original line-up and sometimes with Mildred being replaced due to
other commitments. There have also been rumours of a new album with old and new tracks.
