Item Description

We are pleased to announce the first CD Reissue of GQ's 1981 Album Face To Face - Remastered from the Original studio tapes by Vic Anesini.

Another Authorized by Sony/BMG FTG Reissue

GQ soldiered on to record album number three, FACE TO FACE, in 1981. Before the sessions took place, Paul Service left the group & was replaced (on the recordings) by Chris Parker as well as Howard King (Kenny Banks, who was an early member of GQ prior to Paul Service, rejoined the band for tours). This time, producer Simpson brought to the studio a few heavy hitters – percussionist Ralph MacDonald & arranger Ray Chew.

“Shake”, an absolute killer boogie tune, was the first single (#23/R&B) .Other mid-tempo boogie tunes are “Shy Baby” (with a great instrumental chorus), “Boogie Shoogie Feelin'', and “I Love (The Skin You're In)” – the latter, written by the late Kenny Nolan (of “Peaceful” fame), was recorded by Tavares a year later for their album 'New Directions'. The bass-driven title track “Face To Face” and “You've Got The Floor” has some great guitar licks. The slow tempo songs are “Dark Side Of The Sun” and “Sad Girl” – the latter was also released as single (#39/R&B). “You Put Some Love In My Life” is a nod towards the Caribbean with its nice Reggae groove. This CD reissue contains the bonus track “Try Smurfin”, which was only released as a single on Arista.

FACE TO FACE peaked at #18 on the R&B album charts but it didn’t sell as well as GQ’S first two efforts. Afterwards, Arista released a best-of collection & the group left the label. In 1984 GQ released a 12" single, 'You Are the One for Me' for the independent Stadium Records (singer Keith Sweat, who is Crier’s nephew, produced the track). The group then disbanded. Emanuel went on to cut a solo disc for Capitol in 1991 & record a tribute album to Marvin Gaye and Billy Stewart. He currently tours as “Mr. Q of GQ”.
