Brenda K. Starr was born and raised in New York. Her mother is Puerto Rican and father is Harvey Kaye, original member of the Spiral Starecase. Since her childhood, she dreamed of being a singer and always participated in school events singing and dancing.
She was discovered at a young age with a promising future. Thanks to her determination and discipline she has been victorious in this difficult field.
Her last name says it all: Brenda is a Starr.
Before anybody spoke about crossing over, or about the Latin music invasion, Brenda K. Starr had already made a name for herself. In the late 1980's, Brenda was the undisputed queen of freestyle and house music. Hits such as "I Still Believe" (recorded later by one of her backup singers, Mariah Carey) and "What You See Is What You Get", soon had people hitting thg dance floors all over the world. But Brenda's talent was barely beginning to show. In the mid-1990's she decided to sing in Spanish, the language of her ancestors. Hence Brenda discovered a whole new musical world, while fans of Spanish love songs and tropical music discovered a brand new star.
