Excessively underrated lead singer of the ultra cool funk outfit MTUME, this album some fans of the group’s head, jazz musician James Mtume, called it the last (unofficial) Mtume-Album after the hilarious ‘Theatre of the mind’ masterpiece. Definitely an excellent album by Miss Tawatha Agee, which proved to be one of the best vocalist’s american contemporary soul & funk music has to offer. She was on of the strong female background singers, which has been used by the almighty Luther Vandross on a regular scale and for more than five albums. Further more she brought the divine Aretha Franklin to shine much brighter when the Queen of Soul delivered a magnificent version of ‘Rolling down the deep’ on american tv. As far as I know was Tawatha’s latest contribution to the music scene (record-wise) her lead vocal performance on Aeroplane’s super funky & phat dance monster ‘Love on hold’. This sole solo debut of Miss Tawatha Agee contains, as a top of the cream, the brilliant Dub Mix of the lead-off single ‘Thigh Ride’. My recommendation is: BUY IT!
